Here Is Where We Shall Stay - Book
“Here Is Where We Shall Stay/Dzǫ nàts’ede ha hot’e” is a 6x8-inch, 160-page hardcover photo book with text translated to Wıìlıìdeh Yatii. The book is an extension of a photography project I produced for World Press Photo in 2020. It focuses on how the Dene of the Northwest Territories are moving towards meaningful self-determination by resetting the past atrocities committed by the Government of Canada and the Catholic Church. This book is intended to acknowledge the brutal history of colonization in the NWT, and examines the present-day complex relationship between Catholicism and Dene spirituality.
